Kathy Schicker
Kathy developed Woven light, a ground breaking collection of colour changing and light emitting textiles. These fabrics undergo a reversible colour change when exposed to sunlight or emit light when the sun sets. As the function is part of the material, the magic of the fabrics is they only require sunlight to work.
She continues to explore integrating smart fibres into high end woven Jacquard textiles, or printing using smart inks to create her calm, subtle, colour changing textiles. Complex yet gentle, her designs breathe and reveal themselves according to changes in light and environment.
Alongside a wide range of collaborations and she is a freelance tutor and is an Associate Lecturer on the MA Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins college, London. She is on her way to developing further smart textiles as an Associate Researcher in the Textile Futures Research Group, University of the Arts, London.
